Letter to District 12: The First Week

Friends,

I’m writing today to share that our campaign for State Representative has begun. Our group came together with one simple idea – that people come first. We believe that the work of government is not about elevating a single person, but about creating healthy communities and lifting us all up together.

This is what we have in our hearts as we begin knocking on doors in Alapocas – our home turf. We heard stories from our neighbors, and shared our feelings and values with each other. I sat with a lovely couple on their lawn for a half-hour, sharing our worries about the state of the world, and how we can work together to make our lives better. I met the new 9-week-old puppy of another neighbor, and he played with our corgi Allie. Another neighbor shared her fears about the federal attacks on reproductive freedom, and how she worries for her two daughters. My neighbors need representation that puts them first.

Our spirits are full and we can’t wait to share our message directly with you. When you send me to Dover as Delaware’s only elected physician, I will bring over a decade of institutional knowledge and all the skills of a psychiatrist to help heal our community. I will fight for a diverse economy that works for everyone. I will demand improved access to competent and equitable healthcare. I will be an ally to our educators who teach the next generation.

You deserve someone who won’t back down. And I know now that there are many who agree.

I look forward to shaking your hand and hearing your story.

Talk soon (and Go Birds!),

Dr. Rob Bahnsen
