Letter to District 12: Week of 11/16
Friends,
Healthy communities have the power to lift us up, to heal, and to educate. I spent this week visiting communities throughout our District to see how our neighbors are putting those words into action.
On Veterans Day, Steven and I attended the Flags for Heroes ceremony held by the Brandywine Hundred Rotary Club. We met veterans, police officers, elected officials, and others who came together to honor those who serve. We heard from Stop Soldier Suicide, a lifesaving organization that connects our veterans with mental health resources.
Afterwards, we checked in with the Mission Market at the Central YMCA. People like Jimia, Malinda, and Will are dedicating their time to making sure none of us go hungry. They guided the Mission through the SNAP crisis successfully and with steadfast resolve, never expecting any recognition or accolades for their hard work.
Later that week, we held our first Coffee with the Candidate event. People from across the district came together to talk about the issues. We had a good conversation about our schools, and what I learned will frame how I serve as your State Representative.
Last night, Steven and I attended the All-Star Ball Fundraiser at the Siegel JCC. We were welcomed so warmly, and made many new friends. The J is a place where people can find belonging – a home away from home. The only requirement to join is simply to be kind. Our new friends were drinking, eating, and laughing together – probably the best way to respond to the troubles we have today. And it was not lost on us, as we partied in a building surrounded by cameras and security, that their joy was shared without a guarantee of safety.
No matter how dark things sometime seem, know that these people and places exist. They are the antidote and the power we need. When we come together, we can ensure everyone can thrive with excellent healthcare, a quality education, and the ability to provide for our families. As your State Representative, I will always show up for you, your family, and our communities.
Until next time,
Dr. Rob Bahnsen
Candidate for State Representative, District 12
